Description

Shennington proved to be a very interesting weekend for Cameron Twynham the only SDG works driver today. Camer0n who turned 13 in February was running for the first time in Junior Rotax and for the first time in 3 years at Shennington. His previous experience at this track was one race as a novice cadet just after passing his ARKS test.

Saturday went well after the addition of 15kg to make the weight he started in the 49's for the first session and during the day managed to get down to a 44.6 and was feeling very comfortable with the Kart and set up (Tony Venux).

Sunday brought some nerves as grid 1 was P4 and surrounded by older much more experienced drivers you could see the fear in his eyes until he shut the viewing public out behind his dark visor. The 4th ended up as 18th but in one piece and with some confidence that he was able to hang with some of them. Grid 2 was 19th and ended in an 18th place and grid 3 was 16th ending with another 18th place. In the end an A final grid spot of 19th for his first Junior race was a credit to his persistence and consistency. During the heats he progressed from a 45 dead down to a 44.5 to set his best time on tyres that had been on since Saturday morning.

Then the final, 19th place and a great start meant 17th after lap 1 and a sudden discovery that they might be bigger than him and more experienced but they still left the door open on turn 1! battling from the back of a group of four he passed and re-passed them during the next 6 laps and then put his foot down with consistently faster laps to finish well clear of 14th and catching 12th rapidly and a lap of 44.3 (within a couple of tenths of most people in the 8 places above him) Considering he was driving in a 5 year old kart and an untouched / never worked on 4 year old engine this is even more impressive.

Well done !!!!!!! lets hope for great things at Whilton this weekend at a track you know much better.
